Palate Expanders, MARPE & SARPE in Brooklyn

Room to Smile, Room to Breathe

At Mizrahi Orthodontics, we widen narrow upper jaws for children, teens, and adults to correct crossbites, make room for crowded teeth, and in some patients improve breathing.

Palate Expansion at Mizrahi Orthodontics

A palate expander widens a narrow upper jaw. That extra width helps teeth line up, corrects crossbites, reduces crowding, and can increase nasal airway space.

The right type of expansion depends on age. In children, the upper jaw has a growth seam that an expander can gently widen. In the teens, that seam begins to close, so older teens and adults may need MARPE or SARPE instead.

Your orthodontist will recommend the right approach at your free consultation.

Expanders for Children

At Mizrahi Orthodontics, we stay at the forefront of orthodontic care and use the most modern expansion technology available.

Instead of traditional expanders with a rigid mechanism that parents have to turn at home, we use expanders with flexible memory springs. They gently widen your child’s growing upper jaw, with no keys and no daily turning.

We offer several different types, including the Invisalign® Palatal Expander, a clear, removable expander made as a series of custom-fitted trays. We do all the work for you at your child’s visits, choosing the expander that best fits your child’s needs.

Expansion is often part of Phase 1 early treatment and can make later treatment with braces or aligners simpler.

MARPE for Teens and Adults

MARPE stands for mini-implant-assisted rapid palatal expansion. Small implants, called TADs, anchor the expander directly to the bone, so it can widen the upper jaw even after the growth seam has started to close.

That means many older teens and adults can get true jaw expansion without surgery. The implants are placed quickly with local numbing and removed once treatment is complete.

SARPE for Adults

SARPE stands for surgically assisted rapid palatal expansion. It pairs a minor surgical procedure with an expander for adults whose jaws are too mature for MARPE.

We coordinate every step with an oral surgeon and plan your care with clear communication from start to finish, so you know what to expect at each stage.

Can Expansion Help With Breathing?

Widening the upper jaw can increase nasal airway space, and some patients notice easier breathing through the nose.

For patients with airway or sleep apnea concerns, we plan treatment together with your physician or sleep specialist so your care fits your overall health.
